Of all the non-human critters on Earth, the canine variety are by far my favorite, with horses being my distant second. I truly love painting them. After five years of rediscovering my love of painting, I still experiment—a lot, particularly with my styles. I mostly paint memorials for people that want them. Each one gnaws away at my heart. I can honestly feel the pain of those who have lost their pets, usually due to age. No, I’m not one who claims they are just like family, but it sure feels like it most of the time. I’ve personally grieved over the twenty plus that I’ve lost over my 70+ years of life. Those who aren’t “dog people” fail to understand how attached we get. They even wonder why we choose to keep adding them to our lives. when they break our hearts when they leave us. They just don’t understand how much joy the bring into our lives. This, among all their contributions far outweighs the heartbreaks we all know is coming. With me, I feel certain they have extended my own life, just by keeping my blood pressure down, among many other things.
